Shortcomings

Being asked to discuss shortcomings is a chance to show self-awareness and growth. The best option is the one that directly addresses the prompt by focusing on a real shortcoming. By talking about shortcomings, you can name a genuine area for improvement, explain how you’ve been addressing it, and provide evidence of progress—demonstrating responsibility, reflection, and a plan to develop, which interviewers value.

A good approach is to pick a specific weakness, briefly describe how it affected you, outline concrete steps you’ve taken to improve, and relate the progress to the role you’re pursuing. The other topics don’t fit the prompt as well: discussing strengths bypasses the asked topic, hobbies tend to be irrelevant to the question of self-improvement, and career goals shift the focus to future plans rather than acknowledging and working on a current weakness.
